What if they said AI could be used to synthesise their performance? What if they become so ill that they could never do voice, or even any other kind of work again - wouldn't being able to use AI be a good thing in that case since they could then still get paid in an industry they are familiar with and recognised in?). I'm sure there will be some people out there that want it removed from every aspect of media creation, but also some that think it can and should be used sparingly in order to assist actors in certain circumstances. Now whatever the unions end up deciding is the way they want to approach it has nothing to do with me. This tech exists, it's not going to un-exist any time soon, and I can guarantee you that its usage will be widespread in large-scale game development in the future.

It's pretty obvious, but as I've said before, I'm not advocating for widespread usage. I understand why actors and unions are concerned about the tech. Like I said before, I think this is a very good use-case for the tech (providing its mutually beneficial/consensual with the actor in question). You've kinda answered your own question right there.
